THE AUCKLAND QUALIFYING EVENT to find the Auckland entrant in the qualifying match for a place in the New Zealand Team at the Kia Amateur Australian Open 2012
The tournament concluded with a great finals day producing 3 worthy champions. In Open Mens singles Andrew Allan was the winner over Daniel Brown 7-5 6-4. Andrew will go on to represent Auckland in the playoff for the New Zealand team place in the Australian Amateur Open later this year. The Open Womens Singles was won by Mia Middleton 6-4 6-4 over Davina Meza. Mia took the champions purse but does not meet the age criteria this year so Davina will step up as our womens representative in playoff game.
Thanks again to KIA for their support of this event and thanks to all who participated in a great weekend of tennis.
Mens Open finalists – Andrew Allan and Daniel Brown
Womens Open Finalists Mia Middleton and Davina Meza
The Mens B Singles final was won by Todd Belsham(left) from the Bucklands Beach club over Sergey Belov(right) from Campbells Bay 6-2 6-1.
In the Auckland Indoor ITF Grade 4 Chris Simich from the Auckland RPC was successful, capturing the boys singles title. This was a sweet victory for Chris as he completes his years of coaching in the Auckland program. Chris now heads to America where he has secured a playing position on the Louisville Division 1 college tennis team. We wish him all the best and look forward to watching his international results unfold in the next few years.
In the boys doubles Cameron Norrie and Rhett Purcell capped off a great week taking the title. ( Picture Purcell on the left Norrie on the right)
The Waikato ITF Grade 5 tournament wrapped up at the Waikato Tennis Centre in Hamilton over the weekend, with a number of Aucklanders amongst the title winners.
It was a battle of the Auckland RPC players in the boys singles final, with top seed Cameron Norrie (below right) taking on JDC teammate Alex Klintcharov (below left). Klintcharov fought admirably to take the match to three sets, but it was the top seed who capped off a good week in Waikato with a 6-3 3-6 6-2 win.
Norrie also featured in the boys doubles final with partner Rhett Purcell (AKL RPC player).
A great couple of weeks for our players will their ITF rankings improve significantly.
The Prince Satellite Series finished on a great note with a fine afternoon and a well attended prizeging. Thanks once again to organiser Kevin Burgess and Ian Newton from Prince for another great event. Many thanks to all players and supporters who have made this another great winter of tennis. Prince once again came up with a fantastic array of prizes, and it was great to see the winners smiles.
