BLOCKHOUSE BAY QUEENS BIRTHDAY TOURNAMENT
Another very successful top dog indoor/outdoor tournament was run at Blockhouse Bay on Queens Birthday Monday. Aside from Auckland , participants came from North Harbour, Waikato, Wellington and even Canterbury tennis . A record 78 entries and a dire weather forecast placed significant doubt on completing the 105 matches necessary. As a precaution the inside courts were used to play as many first round matches as possible on the Sunday afternoon. Luckily on Monday the predicted rain stayed away and all 10 courts were used from 8:00 a.m to the completion at around 8:00 p.m.There were 5 mens division’s spilt on top dog grading bands making for some very keen competition. In Division 1 Henry Gers won a very close battle 6-4 3-6 10-8 against Scottish import Ross Murdock . In the ladies Nadia Coombes overcame Tahlia Walsh in another very tight battle (5-7 6-4 10-7)
