It was a race to finish in first place, which saw Parnell and West End complete the round robin play of the Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis competition in a tie for top spot after differing fortunes in their final matches. After a countback it has been confirmed that Parnell will play Blockhouse Bay, at Parnell and West End plays Campbell Park at West End. Both semis will be a real highlight and should be close with some entertaining tennis.West End could have taken the top spot by themselves if they had managed a 6-0 win over Royal Oak. They looked to be close to achieving this, however former Davis Cup player, Mark Nielsen had to withdraw out of his match with Andrew Allan with a calf strain. All other matches were won in straight sets by West End.
Blockhouse Bay beat Remuera 5-1 to finish in fourth place with Marcus Daniell, Jackson Bodle and Marco Comuzzo all winning in straight sets while in the contest between the two bottom sides Pompallier pipped Kohimmarama 4-2.
The women’s section already had Royal Oak as clear winners of round robin play despite their final round bye. Royal Oak finished on 44 points with Kohimarama second on 34 after a 6-0 win over Pompalier. Parnell gained third place after a 4-2 win against Mission Bay while Remuera managed to sneak into fourth with a late run of results after beating Glendowie 5-1. Remuera will have to play an away semi at Royal Oak with Parnell will take on Kohimarama at Kohimarama. The key for Royal Oak this year has been their two Canterbury born teenagers Leela Beattie and Emily Fanning, who are the best junior prospects in New Zealand.
