West End & Parnell Take Caro Bowl Titles

November 30, 2009 11:26 am

Traffic jams proved costly for Parnell in the men’s Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis final while experience worked in favour for the Parnell women’s team in their final.

With a large crowd number of over 500 the Parnell men’s side were hoping to defend their title at home against West End. They started in the worst possible way with No2 Andrew Batie not making it to the courts as a result of traffic congestion and lax time keeping within the 15 minute margin and was then duly defaulted as he was at least 10 minutes after the latest deadline.

Parnell have the opportunity to defend their Caro Bowl tennis titles in the final of the competition this week after two reasonably clear cut semifinal victories. However opponents in the finals, Royal Oak and West End will be thinking that 2009 will be their best opportunities to wrestle the titles away from the regular winners. Royal Oak were the top seeds in the women’s competition going into the semis and duly won their match 4-2 against Remuera but they started badly dropping both doubles matches as Shona Lee and Brittany Teei won the top doubles and Shelley Bryce and Kate Parker the bottom match. Royal Oak then cleaned up all four singles in straight sets.
