Caro Bowl Tennis Battles The Weather

Torrential rain provided a fortuitous start to round one of the Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis competition but didn’t stop the odd upset and a few stars from taking the court.

Despite having a team of former or active professional players 2009 men’s favourites

West End had to fight hard to gain a 4-2 win over Remuera.

Former Davis Cup player James Shortall was back in the Remuera team for the first time since helping them win the title in 1997 and duly preformed beating current Davis Cup team member, Oliver Statham in straight sets in the top singles. More…

Pompallier to Run Business House Competition

World Ranked Players Highlight Start of Scarbro Caro Bowl

Over 25 men taking part in the Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis competition starting this Friday at Auckland clubs for nine frantic weeks have had international world rankings, some as high as the top-180 in the world in singles and top-100 in doubles.

Last year the Parnell club hosted both finals in front of a crowd nearing 1,000 people with some spectacular tennis. More…

World No 1 Players Confirmed For 2010 ASB Classic

The 2010 ASB Classic featuring the Kia Motors Singles and Doubles has scored an early coup with the confirmation that the world’s No1 doubles team and yesterday’s US Open doubles finalists, ’s Cara Black and Liezel Huber have confirmed to play in

Auckland in January.

As a team, Black and Huber have won a total of four Grand Slam doubles titles at

Wimbledon, Open and Australian Open, over 27 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles titles. Between them they can boast over 100 titles in total with various partners.

Black and Huber have been co-ranked No1 since November 2007. Black has spent the second most weeks in history as the world’s No1 doubles player, trailing only Martina Navratilova. Huber has spent the sixth most weeks at No1. More…

Allan and Teei win Kia Amateur Australian Open

Royal Oak’s Andrew Allan (pictured left with Todd McDonald, General Manager Kia Motors New Zealand Ltd) won the Men’s Open section of the Kia Amatuer Australian Open New Zealand Qualifying event on Tuesday evening at Scarbro Tennis Centre.  Andrew played top seed Jackson Bodle from Northland in the men’s final.  After getting off to a great start winning the first set, Andrew lost the second set and faced several match points before triumphing in the 3rd set tie-break.  In the Women’s Open final, Remuera’s Brittany Teei (featured right with Todd McDonald) was too strong for Lucy Barlow from Waikato with a comfortable straight sets win 6-2 6-2.  Andrew and Brittany will now travel to Australia in January to represent New Zealand in the 2010 Kia Amateur Australian Open tournament.

Jackson Bodle the number one seed will play second seed Andrew Allan in what is expected to be an exciting match in tonight’s men’s singles final.

The women’s final also commencing at 6pm tonight will feature Brittany Teei playing Lucy Barlow for the chance to play at Melbourne Park in January.

Semi final action in the 2009 Kia Amateur Australian Open men’s draw last night featured number one seed Jackson Bodle (Blockhouse Bay) vs David Clifford (Cockle Bay) while second seeded Andrew Allan (Royal Oak) played fellow Royal Oak player Trent O’Keeffe.

In the women’s draw Hine Wilson (Huatoki) played Brittany Teei (Remuera) and on the other side of the draw Lucy Barlow (Glendowie) played Tuscany Hamel (Waimairi).

Players are competing for the chance to represent New Zealand at the 2010 Australian Open playing against national amateur champions from 15 countries.
