The entry form and fact sheet for the upcoming New Zealand 18 & Under Indoor Championships are now available here.  The tournament runs from 27th September to 3rd October, with entries closing on 7th September, 2009.

Successful first tournament at Blockhouse Bays Indoor Centre

On Sunday 19 July Blockhouse Bay Tennis Club ran its first ‘open’ tournament utilising its’ fifth indoor and fifth outdoor courts.

The day was a huge success with most draws full – 65 entrants in all. Jason Ward (left) from Lynfield Club was one of the players.

The tournament was singles only and open to S3 gradings and below. In the men’s there were three divisions of 16 and one division of 8 – 88 matches were played on the day which ran from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Every entrant had a minimum of two matches and the benefit of delicious home made food put on by the club. There was some excellent tennis with promising junior David Clifford taking out the top division. Full results available on Tennis NZ’s tournament website.

50th Anniversary Champagne Bollinger Pompallier Tournament

Appointment of New Chief Executive Officer

Greig Bramwell has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Auckland.

Bramwell will be replacing Graham Pearce who, as announced earlier this year, is stepping down from the CEO role but will remain on as a member of the management team. More…

MARINA BARCELONA BOUND WITH “SPECIAL RANKING” STATUS

New Zealand’s top tennis professional, Marina Erakovic, will head to the renowned Sanchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona, at the end of this month to prepare for her return to competition following four months of rehabilitation in Auckland after incurring a left hip stress reaction while competing in March. This will be the first time for Marina to train at the Sannchez-Casal Academy which was established in 1998 by former top Spanish pros Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal. More…

Draws and first report times are now available here for the Auckland July Indoor Tournament, 5th to 9th July 2009.  PLEASE NOTE VENUE CHANGE - the 18’s Boys and Girls age groups will now be held at Scarbro Tennis Centre.  Report Times are indicative only and are subject to change.  Players must be available to play when called upon as per the conditions of entry.

Davis Cup Team Announced

New Zealand’s next Davis Cup tie is against Indonesia and will be played at the Perry Arena in Hamilton, 10-12 July 2009. Team Captain James Greenhalgh has named Oliver Statham and his twin brother Rubin ‘Jose’ Statham in the team – after career-best performances by both of them in recent months. The other members of the Davis Cup team are Dan King-Turner and GD Jones. Team manager will be Alistair Hunt.
