No 1 Seed Juan Del Potro In Heineken Open 2009 Final

Juan Del Potro is through to this years Heineken Open final. In front of a large and very enthusiastic crowd top seed Del Potro won against third seed Robin Soderling of Sweden in two straight sets 6-3 6-4. Soderling could not keep up to his game and struggled with himself serving eight double faults. He had to leave the match to the Argentine, who never lost his focus in it. Tomorrows final will be (1) Juan Del Potro(ARG) versus (6) Sam Querrey(USA).

Sam Querrey First To Reach Finals Of Heineken Open 2009

In a stunning performance sixth seeded American Sam Querrey battled his way through his semi-final at the Heineken Open against second seed David Ferrer from Spain. Being one set down and with match points against him, the Californian still made it to his first final in this season and used his first match point in the third set tie breaker for his 3-6 6-3 7-6(4) victory.

Defending Champion Kohlschreiber Pulled Out

Philipp Kohlschreiber, fifth seed and defending champion of Heineken Open announced that he had to resign from this years tournament. "I am stil suffering from a shoulder injury and I cannot keep on taking painkillers without risiking serious damage to my body" the German said. However he will stay in Auckland to undergo further treatment. His opponent-to be in this quarterfinal David Ferrer(ESP) will now face US-Boy Sam Querrey in semis.

Heineken Open 2009 – Del Potro Charges Into Quarterfinals

Top seed Juan Martin Del Potro is through to the quarterfinals of the Heineken Open after a three-set battle which saw him up against another rising star of the ATP World Tour, Ernests Gulbis of Latvia.

Playing his first match of the year, the world No. 9 took a while to warm into the match against Gulbis, losing the first set to the exciting shot making of the Latvian.

But the battle of the 20-year-olds saw the Argentine No. 1 find his game in the second set and was too sharp in the end for Gulbis, who started to spray a number of shots around the court as the match wore on. Del Potro eventually won 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
