It’s a top-four, bottom-four competition in the men’s and women’s sections of the Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis as the best sides tried to create a gap between themselves and the wannabes.
Parnell lead the men’s side on 19 points, but only by one point ahead of West End, with Blockhouse Bay a couple back and then Pompallier on 15. The big match of round three was the clash which had Pompallier take Parnell to a set countback. More…
After two rounds of Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis there’s still a number of teams who look like they have the ability to make the semifinals with just a couple of standout sides making the others take notice.
The West End men came back after their loss in week one to score a 6-0 victory over of a young Kohimarama team which had to default one match as a result of a traffic snarl up. The all-professional team of Adam Thompson, Mark Nielsen, Wesley Whitehouse, Teo Susnjak and James Greenahalgh were too strong, although Susnjak was taken to three sets by debutant Darnell Sgubin.
The Parnell men look odds on to make the men’s final already after they beat Remuera 6-0 with little fuss. Pompallier scored a 5-1 win over Royal Oak but dropped the top singles match as the steady play of Wei Wei was too much for Finn Tearney.
Blockhouse Bay produced the Meredith brothers, James and Tim and were too strong for Campbell Park. Jackson Bodle also won in the top singles over Kaden Hensel in the 5-1 overall score.
The almost all-international Parnell women’s team accounted for Remuera 6-0 without dropping a set using WTA ranked Di Hollands, former top-100 player Pavlina Nola and ex Kiwi Fed Cup player Niki Tippins.
Mission Bay look to be a contender this season with Tanya Samodelok in fine form as they beat Glendowie 4-2 while Royal Oak scored another good win, this time over Pompallier 6-0.
In the other match defending champs Mangere Combined won 5-1 against Kohimarama with Tracey O’Connor hitting the winners against Briar Preston in the top singles for Managere.
