Marina Erakovic Gives An Encouraging Performance Against World No3
Auckland’s Marina Erakovic held her own at the top level with an encouraging performance against world No3 Jelena Jankovic in her second round singles match at Roland Garros in Paris. The New Zealand No1 had the opportunity to take the match to a third and deciding set, but nerves got the better of her serving for the second set at 6-5 and she then blew a 5-3 lead in the tie break to allow the third seeded Serbian to advance 6-2, 7-6.
Jankovic, who struggled with a sore arm at times gave Erakovic plenty of praise saying she played a solid match and really troubled her at times. She says Erakovic’s serve really troubled her and she expects to see a lot more of Erakovic in the future.
Erakovic and her partner Michaela Krajicek have lost their first round doubles match in straight sets. She now moves on to the grass court season with Wimbledon next month.
