Marina Marches On At Memphis

Marina Erakovic is through to the semi-finals of the US$175000 WTA tournament at Memphis after beating Alla Kudryavtseva from Russia.  Marina dropped the opening set of her quarter-final but bounced back to win 4-6 6-3 6-3.  Her next opponent is the winner of the match between Lindsay Davenport and Caroline Wozniacki.  Her results so far this week may just be enough for her to break into the top hundred on the WTA rankings and earn her a main draw spot in the French Open and Wimbledon Championships.

Executive Secretary Position

Auckland Tennis is currently seeking a full time replacement for the position of Executive Secretary.
Principal amongst the responsibilities of this position are the secretarial duties as required for all Auckland Tennis general meetings and a number of sub-committee meetings, liaison with members, committees and clubs, coordination of all incoming and outgoing correspondence, compilation of the annual report, general day to day administration duties, including involvement with the ASB Classic and Heineken Open international tournaments.
This person needs to be IT literate and preferably have some knowledge of tennis and how Auckland Tennis and its clubs operate.

Marina Through to Quarters at Memphis

Marina Erakovic is through to the quarter finals of the Cellular South Cup Women’s Tier 3 WTA Tour event in Memphis, Tennessee.  Marina defeated American wildcard Amber Liu 7-5 6-3 this morning to progress through to the quarter finals where she will meet the winner of the match between Petra Kvitova (CZE) and Alla Kudryavtseva (RUS).

IC World Junior Challenge Final

Will be held at ASB Tennis Centre February 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st.  Teams taking part, after eliminations in their own regions include Argentina, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa and Uzbekistan.
The New Zealand team is: Boys – Riki McLachlan (Southland), Ben McLachlan (Southland), Girls – Leela Beattie (Canterbury), Briar Preston (North Harbour), Team Captain: Mr Kevin Woolcoot.  The World President of the Council of International Clubs, Frank Sedgman (former Wimbledon Singles champion) will be in attendance and available for interviews.  The opening ceremony will commence at 10.00am on Monday 18th February, and will include a Parade of Teams.  The event will be open to the public at large and there will be no admission charge.  For further information please contact Peter Gardner Ph 528 3140 or 021 209 0086 – peter.gardner@xtra.co.nz
