Berman To Attend USTA High Performance Camp

Sean Berman has been invited to attend a USTA training camp in Portland, Oregon along with eight other promising 14 and under juniors.  As part of a long range plan to develop international stars, the USTA is holding a high performance camp in Portland in conjunction with the USA versus Russia Davis Cup final.  Players will undergo a rigourous training and conditioning programme throughout the week leading up to the tie.  Over the weekend, the players will train in the morning and spend the afternoon cheering for Americans Andy Roddick, James Blake and the Bryan brothers as the US team attempt to win the Davis Cup for the first time since 1995.

PLAYER FIELD FOR 2008 HEINEKEN OPEN

World No5 David Ferrer of Spain will headline the Sovereign singles at the Heineken Open with a couple of veteran Swedes, Thomas Johansson and Jonas Bjorkman big names in the field.

The completed field boasts all players inside the world’s top 65 and the two Swedish players will be familiar to Auckland having both competed in previous years.

Bjorkman is, in fact, a previous winner of the tournament having claimed the singles title in 1997 and the doubles in 2002. Johansson won the Australian Open in 2002.

Statham Out First Round

Oliver Statham went down 6-0 4-6 6-1 to Adam Feeney from Australia in the first round of the Brisbane Challenger. Oliver earned a spot in the main draw by winning three rounds of qualifying.

Oliver Statham only just made the qualifying draw for the Brisbane Challenger as an alternate but ended up winning three rounds to qualify for the main draw. Oliver plays Adam Feeney (Aus) in his opening match. Rubin Statham failed in his bid to qualify, losing in the last round to Aussie junior Greg Jones while GD Jones bowed out in round one.

2008 HEINEKEN OPEN PLAYER ANNOUNCEMENTS

A further four top 30 players have been confirmed to play in the Sovereign singles at the 2008 Heineken Open starting 7 January 2008.

World #20 Juan Ignacio Chela (ARG), Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP) #24, Nicolas Almagro (ESP) #29 and Jarkko Nieminen (FIN) #27 join David Ferrer #5, Guillermo Canas #20, Juan Monaco #23 and Mario Ancic as confirmed starters for the 2008 Heineken Open.

Depth and Talent for 2008 ASB Classic

The full player list for the 2008 ASB Classic has produced a few surprises, some new names and plenty of depth with a number of players in the hunt for the Sovereign singles title, one of them being world No.1 Lindsay Davenport.

The tournament which starts on Monday 31st December has 10 players ranked inside the top 50 in the world as well as three former champions and another close to making the cut. More…
