Marina Out First Round At Quebec

Marina Erakovic lost 6-1 6-2 to Olga Poutchkova (Rus) in the first round of the WTA Bell Challenge tournament at Quebec, Canada. Marina had easily won through three rounds of qualifying to make the tournament proper but crashed out at the first round main draw speed bump.

Marina Qualifies For WTA Event

Marina Erakovic has won three rounds of qualifying to make the main draw of the US$175000 WTA tournament at Quebec, Canada.  Marina beat Marie-Pier Huet (Can) 6-3 6-1 in the first round before ousting Ekaterina Shulaeva (Can) in the next.  In the final round, Marina defeated Andreja Klepac (Slo) 7-5 6-0.  The tournament is a tier three event on the WTA Tour.

Sacha Qualifies At US$50000 Event

Sacha Jones has won three singles matches to qualify at the US$50000 ITF tournament at Taoyuan, Taipei.  Sacha beat a couple of local players easily in the first two rounds before taking out Eun-Hye Cho (Kor) 7-5 6-4 in the final round.

Rubin Statham lost his second round singles to highly regarded Australian junior Greg Jones 7-5 2-6 6-4 at Traralgon last week.

Rubin Statham easily beat Andrew Gregory (Aus) 6-1 6-2 in the first round of a Men’s Futures tournament at Traralgon, Australia.  Rubin plays world number six junior Greg Jones in the second round.

Shona Misses Out On Main Draw

Shona Lee lost 3-6 7-6(9) 6-4 to Australian junior Tyra Calderwood in the second round of qualifying at Traralgon, Australia.  Shona was seeded in the qualifying at the US$25000 event.

Second Title For Marina

Marina Erakovic has won the US$25000 ITF Women’s Circuit tournament at Gympie just a week after claiming the title at Rockhampton. For the second week running, Marina ousted Sophie Ferguson (Aus) in the final to claim the tournament honours. The 6-4 6-3 scoreline in yesterday’s final was a little more comfortable than the previous week.
