Sacha Jones beat Mallory Cecil 6-3 6-1 to win the USTA International Spring Championships at Carson, California yesterday.  Jones went through the week without losing a single set and carried her fine form through to the final where she outplayed the fifth seeded American.  Sacha (pictured left with Chris Lewis and Brenda Perry after her win) was sidelined for four months due to injury and this victory completes a successful stint back on the tournament trail after the long lay-off.  Sacha now heads for Fed Cup duty in Christchurch starting today.

Sacha Jones beat second seed Madison Brengle (USA) 6-4 6-1 to move into the singles final at the USTA International Spring Championships at Carson, California.  Brengle has made the final of two US$25000 ITF Women’s Circuit tournaments this year, made the final of the Australian Junior Champs and was also a wildcard into the main draw of the Australian Open where she lost to Patty Schnyder.  Jones won yesterday’s encounter in impressive fashion and now plays 5th seed Mallory Cecil (USA) for the title.

Sacha Jones defeated ninth seed Gail Brodsky (USA) 7-6 6-2 to move into the semi-finals of the ITF Grade 1 junior tournament at Carson, California.  Sacha plays highly rated Australian Open Junior finalist Madison Brengle (USA) to make the final.

Marina Erakovic lost her second round match to Russian qualifier Maria Kondratieva 7-5 6-3 at the US$25000 ITF Women’s Circuit tournament at Jackson, USA.  Marina was seeded third this week but not a single seeded player has made it through to the quarters.  Marina also lost her second round doubles match.

Oliver Statham won through the qualifying rounds at the ITF Men’s Futures in Tokyo only to come up just short in his first round main draw match.  Oliver beat Paul Warkentin (USA) in the final round of qualifying, but in a cruel twist of fate, he was drawn to play the American for a second time after Warkentin was given a lucky loser spot in the main draw.  Statham lost the rematch 6-4 5-7 7-6.

Third seed Marina Erakovic easily beat Sofia Melikishvili (Geo) 6-2 6-2 in the opening round of the US$25000 ITF Women’s Circuit tournament at Jackson, USA.  Marina faces qualifier Maria Kondratieva in her next match.  Marina is also through to the second round of the doubles.

Sacha Jones chalked up a couple of comfortable victories to move through to the quarter-finals of the USTA International Spring Championships at Carson, California.  Sacha beat Maria Sanchez (USA) 6-2 6-1 in the second round and then downed namesake Chloe Jones (USA) to earn a spot in the last eight.  The third seeded Jones now plays ninth seed Gail Brodsky at the Grade 1 ITF junior event.
