Marina Loses At Sea Island

Marina Erakovic lost 6-4 1-6 6-3 to sixth seed Abigail Spears in the second round of the 2007 Cloisters Cup at Sea Island, Georgia.  Marina and her partner retired in the doubles while trailing 5-2 in the first set of their quarter-final match.

Marina Erakovic beat Neha Uberoi (USA) 6-2 3-6 6-3 to advance to the second round of the 2007 Cloister Cup at Sea Island, Georgia.  Marina now plays sixth seeded American Abigail Spears for a spot in the quarter-finals of the US$50000 tournament.

Marina Erakovic has been drawn to play 241st ranked Neha Uberoi (USA) in the first round of the 2007 Cloister Cup at Sea Island, Georgia.  The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday (Wed NZ time).

Statham Falls To Top Seed

Rubin Statham lost to top seed Go Soeda (Jpn) 7-5 6-1 in the first round of a Futures tournament in Korea.  Simon Rea also went out in round one to fourth seed Frederik Nielsen from Denmark.

Berman Shows His Class At Easter Bowl

Only a couple of months after winning the USTA National Open, Sean Berman won through to the final of another major junior tournament in the United States but this time had to settle for second place.  The hard-hitting Berman trounced second seeded American hope Christian Harrison 6-3 6-2 in the round of sixteen before moving into a finals showdown with another US standout and top seed Emmett Egger.  Sean had beaten Egger in the semis of the USTA National Open earlier this year but was unable to repeat the victory.  Egger won the rematch 6-1 6-3 to win the 2007 Easter Bowl USTA National Spring Championships played on hardcourts at Rancho Mirage, California.  Auckland Tennis congratulate Sean on another superb performance against the best juniors in America. 

Jones Helps NZ To Finish Fifth

Even though she had to make the long journey from Los Angeles to Christchurch, Sacha Jones shrugged off the jet lag to win three of four singles matches to help New Zealand to a fifth place finish at the  Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zonal Qualifying last week.   New Zealand beat minnows Jordan and Kazakhstan easily but lost to India and Chinese Taipei to finish third in pool play.  The team beat Hong Kong in a play-off for fifth.  Chinese Taipei won the zone and now go on to play off against one of the losing World Group 2 countries in a bid for promotion later in the year.

First Round Loss For Marina

Marina Erakovic lost 6-2 6-4 to Irena Pavlovic (Fra) in the ITF Women’s Circuit tournament at Dothan, Alabama last week.  The US$75000 event was played on green clay, a surface Marina is competing on for the first time in her career.
