Jones Breezes Into Manila Quarters

Sacha Jones has moved through to the singles quarter-finals at the Grade 1 ITF junior tournament in Manila, Philippines.  Sacha beat Julia Goroborodko (Ukr) 6-2 6-1 and then overwhelmed Kanyapat Narattana (Tha) 6-0 6-2 in the third round.  Next up for Sacha is number eight seed Ling Zhang from Hong Kong.  Jones is top seed for the week.

Marina Loses Close One In Louisiana

Fifth seed Marina Erakovic lost 4-6 6-3 6-4 to Julie Ditty (USA) in the first round of the US$25000 Women’s Circuit tournament at Hammond, Louisiana.  Ditty is ranked 190 on the WTA list.  Marina won her first round doubles in straight sets yesterday.

Statham In Tokyo Quarters

Rubin Statham defeated eighth seed Tetsuya Chaen (Jpn) 6-4 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Futures tournament in Tokyo.  Rubin now plays second seed Ti Chen (Tpe).

Lavie Loses In Manila

Sebastian Lavie won his first round match against a local player before losing in the second round of the ITF Grade 1 junior tournament at Manila, Philippines this week.  Lavie lost 6-0 6-0 to third seed Hsien-Yin Peng.  Meanwhile, Sacha Jones is seeded first in the girls’ draw and plays Julia Goloborodko (Ukr) in her opening match.

Sacha Beaten By Top Seed

Sacha Jones lost 6-2 7-5 to top seed Casey Dell’Acqua from Australia in the quarter-finals of the US$25000 tournament at Kalgoorlie.  Sacha had set points in the second set but was unable to extend the match to a deciding third set.  Dell’Acqua went on to win the tournament.

Rubin Out Of Tokyo Futures

Rubin Statham went down 6-2 7-6(7) in the second round of the Men’s Futures tournament in Tokyo to second seed Xin-Yuan Yu from China.
