Heineken Open Strongest Field Yet In ATP Era

The 2007 Heineken Open looks set to be a tournament to remember with the January 8-13 event featuring the Sovereign Singles and Doubles the strongest field ever to be held in Auckland in the ATP era.

Parnell To Host Scarbro Caro Bowl Finals

There were countbacks, contentious line calls, false starts, rain interruptions and even some good tennis at the semifinals of the Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis….and once again Parnell will host both finals.

The Parnell men’s team gained a 4-0 victory over West End in a match which should have been closer, especially since West End had beaten them only a week previously. The difficulty for West End was that their No1 player, teenager Austen Childs, a quarterfinalist at this years Australian Open juniors got stuck in Wellington after a family commitment and couldn’t make it to Auckland as a result of no flights being available. First For ASB Classic – Four Top-20 Players

The word "best ever" are commonly used when describing the ASB Classic each year. And once again the phrase "best ever" is true with the 2007 ASB Classic featuring the Sovereign singles and doubles set to have the best list of players in its history, featuring many notable names and highly ranked players.

Upsets In Round Robin Make For Uncertain Caro Bowl Semis

The calculators are out after the conclusion of the men’s round robin in the Scarbro Caro Bowl. It appears that Pompallier’s late run of success helped them to take the equal top spot and finish on 43 points, the same as Parnell who had their second loss of their season, albeit on countback to West End. Blockhouse Bay ended in third on 40 points with West End on 37 in fourth.

Sokcevic Shines In Sydney

Fifteen year old Roland Sokcevic made the most of his first up competitive appearance in Australia when he won the Boys’ 16 and under singles at the Sydney Junior Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.  Sokcevic slayed several seeds on his way to the final where he outlasted ninth seed Milan Vrbka 7-5 5-7 6-4 to bag his first ever title away from home.
