Marina Turns Tables On Austrian

Marina Erakovic avenged a loss earlier this month to Tina Schiechtl when she defeated the seventh seeded Austrian in the first round of the TEAN International in Holland.  Marina struggled in the middle of the match but came out on top 6-3 0-6 6-3 to move into the next round against Austrian qualifier Patricia Mayr who is ranked 514 on the WTA computer.

Quebec Quarters For Sacha

Sacha Jones has teed up a quarter-final clash with top seed Julia Cohen (USA) in the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open Junior Championships at Repentigny.  Jones won a hard fought first set against ninth seed Naomi Cavaday (GBR) before romping to a 7-6(9-7) 6-2 third round victory.  In the previous round Sacha easily beat Canadian qualifier Stephanie Roy 6-3 6-2.  Jones is also through to the quarters of the doubles in tandem with Cavaday.

Shona Lee Loses Early In Gladstone

Third seed Shona Lee lost 6-2 4-6 6-3 to Cassandra Chan (Aus) in the first round of the US$10000 Kia International at Gladstone, Australia.

Sacha Seeded Fifth At Canadian Juniors

Sacha Jones is seeded fifth for the Canadian Open Junior Championships at Repentigny, Canada.  Jones received a first round bye and will play the winner of an all-Canadian clash between Stephanie Roy and Alexandra Odell Michels.

Marina Strikes Seed First Up

Marina Erakovic has been drawn to play seventh seed Tina Schiechtl (Aut) in the first round of the US$25000 ITF Women’s Circuit tournament in Holland.  The two met earlier this month at a tournament in Italy where the Austrian won in straight sets.

Sacha Claims Oceania Title

Fifteen year old Sacha Jones beat Tyra Calderwood (Aus) 6-3 6-4 to win the Air Pacific Oceania Closed Championships in Fiji for the second year in a row.  Jones won the final in routine fashion and later combined with the Australian player to win the doubles.  Sacha is now on her way to the Canadian Junior Championships before heading to New York for the US Juniors.

First Round Exits At Padova

Oliver and Rubin Statham were both knocked out in the first round of singles at the Men’s Futures tournament at Padova, Italy.  Oliver lost 6-3 6-3 to eighth seed Matteo Viola (Ita) while Rubin fell 6-1 6-2 to second seed Giancarlo Petrazzuolo (Ita).
