Sacha Gets First Round Bye

Sacha Jones received a bye through to the second round of the Astrid Bowl in Belgium where she will play Sandra Roma from Sweden.  Roma defeated Jessica Moore from Australia in round one.

Jones Ousted By World’s Top Junior

Sacha Jones lost 6-1 7-6 to world number one junior Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Rus) in the quarter-finals of the Italian Junior Championships in Milan.  After a sluggish start, Jones went the distance in the second set but failed to convert a set point that would have extended the match to a third set.  Sacha now heads to the Astrid Bowl in Belgium before moving on to Paris for the French Junior Championships.

Sacha To Take On World Number One

Sacha Jones advanced to the quarter-finals of the Italian Junior Championships by beating Valeria Pulido-Velasco 6-4 6-3.  Jones lost easily to the Mexican girl last week but turned the tables on the claycourts of Milan to set up a mouthwatering clash with the current world number one junior Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.  The Russian, coached by her father, won the Australian Junior Championships earlier this year and is coming off a tournament victory at Santa Croce last week.  Sacha has a current world junior ranking of 15.

Marina’s Grand Slam Hopes Dashed

Marina Erakovic will have to wait a little longer before making a main draw appearance at a Grand Slam event.  She started well enough in her second round match against South Africa’s Natalie Grandin by winning the first set 6-4.  The second was a drawn out affair with Grandin reversing the scoreline in 59 minutes.  Erakovic, who won only 35% of the points played on her own second serve, was unable to stay with Grandin in the final set and lost it 6-0. 

 

Winning Start For Marina In Paris

Marina Erakovic got off to a winning start at Roland Garros when she won her first round of qualifying in her bid to win through to the main draw.  Marina needed eighty one minutes to subdue Shiho Hisamatsu of Japan 6-3 6-2 and move into the second round.  Marina served seven aces on her way to victory and did not drop serve at all throughout the match.  Her opponent in the next round is Natalie Grandin from South Africa.

Rubin Bundled Out In Mexico

Rubin Statham lost 6-1 6-3 to Israel Morales from Guatemala in the first round of the F8 Futures tournament at Los Mochis, Mexico.  Oliver Statham lost in qualifying at the same event.

Sacha Beats Italian Wildcard – Again

Sacha Jones is through to the third round of the Italian Junior Championships by virtue of a 4-6 6-4 6-2 victory over Italian wildcard entry Anna-Giulia Remondina.  Jones beat Remondina in three sets at a tournament in Santa Croce last week.
